BENJAMIN MARTIN - Visiting Instructor
World Champion Same-sex Dancing:
Benjamin started dancing when he was 3 1/2 years old.
At first only standard, but later on realized, that his true passion was
latin. Throughout his teens he assisted on the dancestudio as teacher in childrens
dance classes, standard, latin, jazzballet, hip hop and social dancing.
He became Danish DOF Latin Champion in 1999, and achieved IDSF Open semifinal
results both in London, and other European capitals.
His biggest inspiration in dancing come from wonderful work of Allan
Tornsberg & Vibeke Toft (lesons/lectures), and technically he got so much
knowledge from Bo & Helle Loft Jensen - all former Danish World Champions.
He finished his competitive straight dancing career in November 2005 with his
5th and last female partner. Today he is an examined teacher in standard- and latindance, with license to
adjudicate.
He watched his first same-sex dance competiton in December '05, and partnered up
with Silas Victor on that day:)
So far, Silas and Benjamin have entered the Mens Latin competitions at Munich Open,
German Open, Budapest Open, WC2006, Hannover Rainbow Trophy & Cologne Open -
and never lost one single dance, in any 5 dance latin Finale.
He have been doing lectures, private lessons and shows both in Europe and
America.
Due to illness they did not start at the London Open Championships in February
2007, but have decided to go back into competition at The Eurogames 2007 -
Belgium in July, and they will be defending their Title at WC2007 in Holland.
Both Silas and Benjamin feel that they still have much more to give the same-sex dance
sport as active and creative dancers on the dance floor, but clearly feel
- and try to get the best out of the ambivalence in how things have changed
internationally, from being the new attacking couple, to their present
defending position... being the target, but thereby also setting the trends.
When he does not dance Benjamin works for Wella Professional Hair Care and travels
around Europe doing technical demonstrations and seminars in cut and color
trends.
